My name is Laura Rey. I discovered circus while I was finishing my degree.
Geological Engineering at the Polytechnique de Montréal. Before that, I studied Dramatic Arts at the Arte 4 school in Madrid and Law at the Complutense University.
I have always been interested in movement, physicality, possibilities and forms of the
body. This concern led me to dedicate myself completely to circus in its different
modalities, both from the didactic and artistic side.
I have lived in different countries and trained in circus in many of them, in
London at the Upswing school, in Paris at Les Noctambules and in Mexico with
different teachers.
I have participated in international circus festivals, highlighting the
International Festival of Oaxaca in 2022, where I presented a very special personal show
me: ‘Io e Mariluz’.
In 2019 I opened my first school in Madrid, Allegra Danza Aerial, which closed last
June. In July 2024 I opened CHIDA, which is now my circus and
pole dance school, also in Madrid.
Since 2020 I have been organizing a circus festival in Galicia (Spain) called MARUSÏA.
Last August (2024) was its last edition, since for the summer of 2025 I have
another project that I will announce in January of the same year.
In 2023 I started with the idea of creating a ‘competition’ of aerial disciplines
circus artists that united the circus community in Spain. This gave rise to aerial art
in April 2024.
My vision of circus always comes from art and the spirit of sharing and growing
together. I firmly believe that it is a sector that we must make stronger and present
in society from a much more admired and respected place.
